History and Company Profile

Harms Consulting was founded 1996 by Detlev Harms shortly after arriving in Australia from Germany.

The formative years were driven by our strong expertise in ABAP development and system integration. Early clients included ICI Explosives, Johnson & Johnson Medical and NDC. These days were also marked by a developing partnership with Ernst & Young.

With our role in the implementation of Thomas Cook in 1999 the team expanded, still concentrating on development and development management.

In 2000 our focus on SAP Real Estate Management began. This saw a transitioning from development experts, to solution experts; with a particular strength in all areas relating to Real Estate, including Financials,  Customer Relationship Management, Plant Maintenance, Procurement and Business Intelligence.

In 2002 we also started building our SAP Support team. Whilst initially only complementing skills of internal IT departments, we also started offering fully outsourced SAP application management services from 2003.

Becoming a recognised partner of SAP in 2003, much of the focus was on growing the Application Management side of the business, improving efficiencies and compliance and developing a model which allows us to deliver business value and innovation whilst containing costs.

Harms Consulting has now become a full service consulting firm, offering all aspects of services for the full SAP software life-cycle, from planning to building and running the application.

Since 2005 the focus on the Real Estate sector has intensified and we have built strong relationships locally and globally within the SAP Real Estate community. We are now recognised as the premier SAP partner in the ecosystem which has differentiating capabilities in this space in Australia and New Zealand.

Bruce McEwen joined the board in 2006 as a non executive director and in the same year the Harms corporate office re-located from Bondi Junction into the Sydney CBD.

In 2008 Harms Consulting performed the first SAP Flexible Real Estate Implementation in Australia for Luxottica Retail. This has become a global success story.

Since 2009 Harms Consulting has operated in three business units: SAP Application Management Services, SAP Real Estate Projects and General SAP Consulting. Harms Consulting rejoined the SAP PartnerEdge program as a Global partner in 2009.

From 2010 we are working on extending our reach in Australia and the region and offering our services to a larger audience; in particular, our Application Management Services and RE expertise.
